With great skill and efficiency, the Vidal family manages an emblematic property that characterises the renewal of the Cahors AOC. Johan Vidal knows how to give a modern edge to his wines, by giving them smoother, less rustic tannins, all whilst respecting the value and strength of the superb terroir of the third terrace.

Johan is the 5th generation of the Vidal family who started this Château of 30 ha in around 1750-1800. Back then, the Cahors AOC covered over 40,000 ha, but after the phylloxera in 1870, the AOC covered just 4,500 ha. It is certainly going through a revival as a town and AOC, and Johan has been part of this revolution since 1997, which marked the first vintage that he created on his own.

Notes and Reviews

Château Tasting

This is for the long term. Colour is black. The nose demonstrates a rare purity of fruit, backed by floral, fruity, and spicy notes. Palate is dense, a little tight still, but already shows where it is heading. Plenty of finesse there. Minerals and dark fruits take us towards an un-measurable finish.
